About SUPERIOR Manufacturing

SUPERIOR Equipment Manufacturing Company maintains two major production facilities. One operates in a 50,000 square foot building situated on a four-acre site in Houston, Texas. The plant manufactures several products, including self-erecting portable water towers, water trucks, and specialty pipeline equipment.

At this Houston facility, we also assemble welder tractors and pipe carriers, and convert conventional tractors and mechanical pipelaying tractors into hydraulic pipelaying tractors.

Parma, Italy is the home of SUPERIOR's second major production facility, where our plant produces pipe bending machines, bending mandrels, bending sets, hydraulic pipelayer winch systems, and padding machines. These specialty products are sold to pipeline construction contractors and are made available on a rental basis through our Worldwide Machinery Pipeline Division rental fleet.

SUPERIOR's product line of pipe bending machines is the broadest in the industry, and it has been designed to incorporate the most modern features. In addition, the bending strength of the SUPERIOR bending machine is at the top of the list when compared to our competitors' machines.

The SUPERIOR hydraulic pipelayer winch system is unique within the industry, and is the subject of several patents granted to Alan Greenberg, a principal of the Worldwide Companies. To compensate for some perceived safety, operating and design issues he observed in an older-model Caterpillar mechanical sideboom (the tractor-mounted crane that is most popular among pipeline contractors), Alan Greenberg designed and built a conversion kit that retrofitted the Caterpillar equipment with hydraulic power, a vastly simplified control resembling a joystick, an anti-tipping feature, and a device for preventing equipment damage and danger to the operator if the load needed to be suddenly released.

In order to comply with the stricter safety regulations recently mandated for mechanical sidebooms by authorities in the European Union (formerly the “Common Market”), owners of Caterpillar mechanical sidebooms in Europe are enthusiastically ordering these conversion kits. SUPERIOR Equipment Manufacturing Company supplies these kits to Europe as well as to our Worldwide Machinery Pipeline Division, which has converted several machines in our rental fleet with very positive results.
